We are seeking a Full-time Substance Abuse Disorder Counselor for the “The Cariño Project”- Substance Abuse Disorder Counselor is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for supporting the Programs Operations of the Agency.

What is the Cariño Project?

The Cariño Project serves low-income multiracial, multicultural, and multigenerational immigrant and agricultural workers and their families; as well as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ+) youth, can gather and create community; decrease stigma; bring awareness about behavioral health challenges and provide wellness activities and linkages to other services. El Centro engages with the clients we hope to serve through investment into community activities whether they be participating in Coastside collaborative leadership meetings, city sponsored events and/or school-based events.

Primarily this program delivers co-occurring substance use case management and treatment services to clients with mild to moderate mental health conditions. These activities would include screening and assessment, individual and group co-occurring substance use treatment, prevention education, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and medicated assistance treatment services all while incorporating trauma-informed and culturally responsive best practices. El Centro provides linkage and referral services to San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services.

The duties of the Substance Abuse Disorder Counselor include:

. Outreach to Farmworkers in the COASTSIDE

· Conducting Individual and group counseling sessions

· Conduct substance abuse assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.

· Provide outpatient substance abuse counseling based on individual treatment plans.

· Provide direct linkage, navigation, and case management to match clients’ needs.

· Maintain proper notes and documentation in clients’ medical records, and comply with HIPPA and standards of care guidelines.

· Participate in clinical supervision and attend required trainings and agency meetings

· Administering periodic drug tests; documentation of client participation from program fulfillment through discharge planning and tracking.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

· Two (2) years of substance abuse counseling experience and is currently certified or working towards their Substance Abuse Counseling Abuse Certification

· OR has a BA in Psychology/Social Work or in process of completing a BA in Psychology/Social Work and is willing to take some additional courses to become a certified counselor

· Experienced skills in the facilitation of groups and workshops (Motivational Interviewing skills)

· Variable schedule with some evening hours; Ability to be based in Redwood City and work as needed in Half Moon Bay

· Bilingual Spanish/English and able to read and write in both is required

· In good standing with a professional association recognized by the California Department of Health Care Services for Treatment of Substance Abuse Disorders (CAADE, CADTP, and or CCAPP)

Regular workdays and hours:

· Availability Monday- Friday between 8:00am – 9:00pm; some weekends as needed.

Location: In person Half Moon Bay, CA (No remote work)
