Information is provided by City of HMB:

“The City of Half Moon Bay invites everyone to join us in observing Remembrance Day, a time to honor the victims and survivors of the tragic January 23, 2023, shooting that claimed the lives of seven local farmworkers.

Community members are encouraged to visit Mac Dutra Plaza on Thursday, January 23, 2025, to leave flower arrangements, ribbons, letters, candles, and other items as a gesture of remembrance. Please note that there will be no formal event hosted by the City on this day.

This heartbreaking and shocking incident deeply impacted the Coastside community, and the City of Half Moon Bay shares in the collective grief and resilience that followed. In response, the City established the Farmworker Memorial and Remembrance Advisory Committee, a group of local community members working together to develop a fitting memorial to honor those lost and to celebrate the enduring legacy of farmwork on the Coast.

As part of this effort, City staff will host a pop-up session at Mac Dutra Plaza from 3:00–4:00 PM to gather public feedback on the three proposed designs for the permanent memorial.

We invite the community to participate in Remembrance Day as we continue the healing process, foster unity in the face of tragedy, and build bridges to a brighter future for survivors and all those affected.”
