Election Info – What you Need to Know!

Voters in Half Moon Bay are receiving their ballots in the mail for the upcoming November 5 General Election. Ballots were mailed out starting on Monday, October 7, so please look out for them in your mail! 

The City of Half Moon Bay holds district-based elections for its five city council seats. Don’t know which district you are in? Visit our website to find out!

  • November 2024 Election – Districts 2 and 3 will elect a representative to a four-year term.
  • November 2026 Election – Districts 1, 4, and 5 will elect a representative to a four-year term

District 2 and District 3 each have two candidates. For more information on the 2024 Qualified City Council candidates, and maps of the two districts, please visit our website.

City Voters will also have an opportunity to consider Measure R, a ½ cent sales tax. This measure was placed on the ballot by a vote of the City Council on July 16. Revenues raised could be used for any lawful City purpose. In placing the measure on the ballot, the city council indicated that the proposed tax proceeds could be used for purposes such as maintaining 911 emergency response times, sheriff patrols, and disaster/emergency preparedness; keeping public places safe, healthy, and clean; reducing traffic congestion; and maintaining youth and recreation programs.

All Mail Ballot Process

Vote Centers / Ballot Drop Boxes  

You can mail in your ballot or drop it off at a ballot drop box or at a Vote Center. If you do not receive a ballot, you can request one from the County or pick one up at any Vote Center in the County.

11-Day Vote Center (Emergency Operations Center, 537 Kelly Avenue) open October 26 to November 5 

Ballot Drop Boxes starting October 8 

Voter Registration / Conditional 

  • Regular voter registration deadline is Monday, October 21 
  • Conditional voter registration allowed up to the day of the election on November 5 
  • At a Vote Center, you can register to vote by filling out a paper form or by filling out an online form. You will be given a provisional ballot that will count once your eligibility is verified. 
  • Pre-Registration starting at 16 years old
