The Coastal Conservancy is working in partnership with Orange County Coastkeeper (OCCK) to enhance access to California’s coastline for individuals with disabilities or reduced mobility.

OCCK is accepting applications on a rolling basis for to their Beach and Coast Accessibility Program, which will provide grants of up to $30,000 to tribes, nonprofit organizations, and public entities, enabling them to employ accessibility equipment such as beach wheelchairs, walkers, mats, and other devices.

The goal of the program is to make coastal recreation inclusive and enjoyable at no cost to the individual.

Eligible projects include the acquisition of beach wheelchairs, all-terrain wheelchairs, beach accessibility mats, maintenance parts, adaptive equipment for kayaks, and non-permanent beach wheelchair storage that will be provided free of charge to the public.

Projects must involve water-adjacent areas statewide (not limited to Orange County), on or near the coast, including but not limited to beaches, lakes, rivers, and bays.

In addition to improving beach access, proposals can address accessibility issues impacting communities near coastal lakes, rivers, and bays.

Approximately $185,000 will be awarded in this grant round. The anticipated minimum grant award is $1,000, and the maximum is $30,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until grant funds are expended.

The Conservancy is providing the funding for this program and has partnered with OCCK to help distribute these funds.
