Concerning the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection Program
On March 27, 2024, the Office of Administrative Law approved and filed with the Secretary of State the Bureau of Automotive Repair’s (BAR) regulatory action concerning the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection Program. The regulatory action makes the following changes, effective March 27, 2024, to Chapter 1 of Division 33 of Title 16 of the California Code of Regulations:
- Amend Article 1, sections 3303, 3303.2
- Amend Article 2, sections 3305, 3306, 3307, 3308, 3309, 3310
- Adopt Article 2.5, sections 3311.1, 3311.2, 3311.3, 3312.1, 3312.1.1, 3312.2, 3313.1, 3313.2, 3314.1, 3314.1.1, 3314.2
- Amend Article 3, sections 3315, 3316
- Amend Article 4, sections 3320, 3321
As required by Assembly Bill 471 (Low, Chapter 372, Statutes of 2021), the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection Program consolidates current brake and lamp inspections with other vehicle safety systems assessments into one comprehensive inspection program. As required by the regulations, the brake and lamp inspection programs will sunset on September 27, 2024—six months after adoption of the new regulations.
