Webinar Description

Thursday, September 14, 2023, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. PT

Addressing employee performance or behavioral issues can be difficult and uncomfortable, but taking disciplinary measures provides several benefits for the employer and the employee. Discipline provides justification for an employer’s personnel decisions while demonstrating an employer’s commitment to standards and fairness for their entire workforce. Discipline also provides employees with the opportunity to address concerns and show growth.

However, some employees do not improve or correct their shortcomings, and termination is a necessary next step.  Employers must carefully evaluate the circumstances surrounding each termination decision to ensure that although well-intentioned, it is not unlawful.

This webinar will cover how discipline and termination can become unlawful, offering practical guidance on making strategic and well-reasoned personnel decisions.

Join our California employment law experts for a discussion on discipline and termination, including:

  • Making disciplinary decisions related to performance and conduct;
  • Special issues to consider around absenteeism and tardiness;
  • Considerations prior to terminating an employee;
  • The process for terminating an employee; and
  • Factual scenarios to illustrate discipline and termination concepts.
