“The Coastal Commission has released a public review draft of the latest update to its Sea Level Rise Policy Guidance. Updates address three main topic areas: 1) evolving best available science (Ocean Protection Council, 2024) (updates in yellow); 2) integration of environmental justice principles and planning considerations related to sea level rise (EJ Update to SLR Policy Guidance) (updates in blue); and 3) guidelines related to Senate Bill 272 (Laird, 2023), which requires local governments to incorporate sea level rise plans as part of new or updated Local Coastal Programs (updates in green). Draft 2024 Sea Level Rise Policy Guidance
The Draft Update will be presented as an informational item at the Coastal Commission meeting in Calabasas on Friday, August 9, 2024. This presentation will focus on the SLR science and Senate Bill 272 updates. There will be a second informational presentation on the EJ updates at the September Commission meeting. The Draft Update will be considered for adoption at a future meeting. Public comments on the updates can be sent to [email protected].
