Information provided by Civitas:
At Civitas, we have been closely monitoring the development of the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act, or TPAA, as it could potentially result in substantial alterations in the realm of taxes, fees, and assessments.
Today, June 20, 2024, the California Supreme Court ruled, “…the Secretary to refrain from taking any steps to place the TPAA on the November 5, 2024, election ballot or to include the measure in the voter information guide.”
The Courts found that this measure seeks to revise the Constitution without adhering to the correct process. While the TPAA’s proposed changes are something voters can decide on, they would drastically change our basic government framework. Therefore, these changes must go through the official constitutional revision process rather than being enacted by an initiative.
