Footnotes Jazz is a San Francisco Bay Area jazz ensemble that showcases contemporary and original music classics.
The group performs the music of contemporary writers such as Gordon Goodwin, Tom Kubis, and Vince Mendoza and classics from Thad Jones, Duke Ellington, and Sammy Nestico. Footnotes also features original sounds by some local Bay Area composers such as Wayne Wallace, Rick Walsh, Tod Dickow, Howard Cespedes and their own pianist Paul Mernyk.
Footnotes Jazz rose from the ashes of the Foothill College Big Band program after budget cuts dismantled the music program. The members of the Foothill Evening ensemble renamed and reconvened as an independent group, Footnotes Jazz.
