Participating neighborhoods can get a $150 grant to help with block party costs

Half Moon Bay, CA – National Night Out is the annual nationwide community-building campaign encouraging police/community partnerships and neighbor-to-neighbor connections, helping to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.

The City of Half Moon Bay encourages local participation by inviting residents to hold block parties on Tuesday, August 1, and reconnect with their neighbors. The City will help jump-start block parties by offering a $150 gift card that will help offset the costs of putting on a great neighborhood block party.

This small grant to participating neighborhood teams can be used to pay for food, beverages, decorations, table and chair rentals, or whatever your block party needs to be a success! The application is online at hmbcity.com/nightout, and residents may get more information or have an application sent to them by contacting Carlo Wei at 650-750-8254 / [email protected].

“National Night Out is a great opportunity for Half Moon Bay residents to get together, meet new people, re-connect with neighbors, and spend some time relaxing in an informal social setting,” said Half Moon Bay City Manager Matthew Chidester. “Getting to know our neighbors is good for neighborhood safety and makes it easier for people to look out for each other – and that’s great for our entire community.” Depending on the number of block parties and staff availability, the City will try to schedule a visit by a fire truck or Sheriff’s vehicle. Most neighbors hold their National Night Out events between 6 and 9 pm.

On National Night Out, neighborhoods across the nation host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and other various community events. Visit the National Night Out website for more information about this nationwide effort.
