Depending on your industry, summertime may be a good time to revamp some of your hiring processes. Back in the day, many of us called the process of bringing on new employees a “New Hire Orientation”. Now, the term “Onboarding” is more commonly used when describing the process of hiring new employees and integrating them into your organization.
No matter what you call it, an effective onboarding process (or new hire orientation) is essential because it can have a big impact on whether employees stay with your company. It’s your company’s chance to provide new employees with company protocols, required training, tools, and other resources to help them perform their duties effectively. When done properly, it’s an excellent opportunity to make a positive first impression on a brand new employee and ensure they feel like the company is a good fit. Ultimately, successful onboarding can increase employee retention.
