Bay City Flower Co., a former bustling commercial operation south of Half Moon Bay, has been dormant since the agricultural business closed in 2019. But a recent decision from the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors this week could reopen the area for housing in a few years. 

On Tuesday, supervisors passed a resolution announcing their intent to buy Bay City Flower and the 50 acres of surrounding property for $9 million. The decision happened quietly without much discussion on the supervisor’s consent agenda, but it kickstarted what’s expected to be a significant undertaking.
